Opinion/Faith
By Jennifer St. Clair, 6-30-23
Why is it so difficult for us to let go of our subjectivity and attachment
regarding situations in daily life, both personally and professionally?
Could it be because we fear unwanted outcomes that might leave us
standing far removed from the circle of influence we feel is important to
maintain our status level? Do we honestly believe our way is the
highway and no matter what anyone else has to say, we are sticking to it?
Just because? Or just because we have the power to do so?
Humans BeComing…that’s who we are, ever in the process of ‘living’
until the day we do. Somehow, along the way ‘life happens’ when we
least expect it and a whammeeee hits the pavement, cracking our
highway and forcing us to STOP in our tracks. The route we mapped
out is no longer do-able. It’s time to re-route!
The irony of it all? More often than not, matters were out of our control
from the getgo. Our egos proposed a gold-studded formula for us to
follow and our human-ness allowed us to be fooled. Yet, all is not lost!
Once we understand that ‘e-g-o’ eases God out, we can then put our
noses to the grindstone again, this time putting God in charge of things.
Now, this doesn’t mean we merely sit back and ‘wait’ for something to
kick in, doing nothing of our own volition. Definitely not! Afterall, God
provides the little birds with worms and bugs but doesn’t put them in
their mouths. Oh, no. They must do their part, too. And so must we.
However, scripture gives us hope when we think there is no other way
out or nothing else we can do to change matters for the better. It’s
actually one of my favorite verses…
Matt. 13:31 “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed…nothing will be
impossible for you.”
And another one I love?
Psalm 27:14 “Wait on the Lord. Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen
their heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord.”
Despite the detours and re-routing along the journey to BeComingness,
I believe life is good. Each day is a gift to be treasured. Hopefully, when
all is said and done in the end, we can be like the young fisherman in the
photo and say: “Well, Lord. I’ve done my part.”
