Tropical Storm Philippe Could Mix With New System Likely to Form, Hurricane Center Says

A slowing Tropical Storm Philippe night end of mixing with what the National Hurricane Center says could become Tropical Storm Rena in the coming days.

As of 5 a.m. the NHC said Philippe was located about 560 miles east of the Caribbean’s northern Leeward Islands moving west-northwest at 5 mph with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph

The storm’s slowing forward movement gives uncertainty to the forecast, but the latest still projects it to favor a western direction over models that suggest it will turn to the north. That could mean a system that is developing in the Atlantic right behind it could catch up.
