Congratulations to Fernandina Beach native Poe Pinson on a great 5th place in the world Olympic performance! We saw some of the competition. It is an incredibly difficult and somewhat dangerous event, combining skill, strength, coordination and courage. Most of the competitors fell, multiple times. Injuries are common in the sport.
We look forward to celebrating with you at your Olympic Homecoming Parade at 6 p.m. on August 16 starting at Central Park. Drive, walk or skate to this event!
The City Commission voted to name the skateboard park at Main Beach after Poe. There will also be a renaming dedication ceremony there at 1:30 PM Friday, August 16. Some folks also want to upgrade the skatepark so that aspiring Olympians don’t have to go t Jacksonville to train.
