Charlie Kirk’s assassination devastated us. Moments before his death, someone asked him: Do you know how many mass shooters there have been in America over the last 10 years?” Charlie immediately replied with a clarifying question: “Counting or not counting gang violence?” Anyone who regularly reads our emails or visits our website knows I have repeatedly dug into these numbers. Indeed, I know no one else who has broken down this data to even look at this question. For years, I have shown that the Gun Violence Archive data—on which the questioner relied—consists largely of gang fights.

Over the last two weeks, I published four op-eds. At the heart of mass murders and other crimes lies a profound mental health crisis. In an op-ed at Real Clear Politics with Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY), we highlighted how mental health experts repeatedly fail to identify dangerous individuals. We stressed that society cannot rely solely on these experts and asked the crucial question: “What’s the backup plan?” I also discussed these points on Gun Radio Utah.

In another Real Clear Politics op-ed, Richard Porter—former RNC National Committeeman from Illinois—and I analyze the lessons from Trump’s federalization of law enforcement and show how they could guide other U.S. cities. In related appearances, I discussed what Trump did on Fox News’ Fox & Friends (worth watching) and a couple of appearances on Bannon’s War Room (here and here). Fox News and Newsweek had two very long interviews with me. Another long interview with Fox News explained how the opposition to Trump’s policies had echos of the defund the police movement. Radio and podcast appearances included: John Solomon ReportsLarry Elder ShowWisconsin’s Vicki Mckenna ShowLas Vegas’ KXNTAlaska’s Michael Dukes Showthe Financial Survival NetworkArmed American Radiothe Bob Jones Show, and Central California’s KNZR.

In Canada, police have advised crime victims to “comply” with criminals’ demands if they cannot successfully hide. In the Toronto Sun, Professor Gary Mauser of Simon Fraser University and I explained why this guidance is dangerous. Compliance not only encourages more crime but also increases the chances that victims will suffer serious injuries.

My piece with Congressman Thomas Massie in the Wall Street Journal on how these mass murderers keep targeting gun-free zones has also continued to get attention. I appeared on NewsMax’s Wake Up America and two appearances on Steve Bannon’s War Room (here and here). Radio shows included: Sunday Nights with Bill Cunningham (national)Larry Elder Show (national)Wisconsin’s Vicki McKenna ShowArmed American Radio, and San Diego’s Andrea Kaye Show.

Another op-ed that I had in the Washington Times explained the importance of voter IDs in preventing vote fraud. I was interviewed about the piece on New York City’s giant WOR.

Our research has also gotten coverage in the Kansas City Star, the Washington ExaminerBreitbart, Townhall, the Media Research Center, and more.

In other news, authorities have now identified the man who attempted to murder Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh as a transgender woman who strongly supporter of strict gun control. In the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, many prominent Democrats quickly used the tragedy to push for more gun control. Yet none clarified whether they sought to ban bolt-action rifles or to restrict left-wingers living with gay or transgender partners.

Regarding stories of defensive gun use, here is an instance of a woman shooting a man who had repeatedly abused and beaten her to protect herself and her children. As the police office in the video says, the woman “had no other choice but to defend herself and that is why people have guns.” We have updated our list of defensive gun uses by people legally carrying concealed handguns for January 2025.

If you haven’t already seen it, please watch our new video with John Stossel, which covers our new research showing errors in the FBI’s active shooting reports.

For those who haven’t already done so, if you would like to help us get the information out to others, please consider posting reviews of our website on the Google business page that we have set up. The more positive reviews people post, the more Google will feature our webpage in their searches. Thank you very much!

We need help getting our research out. It doesn’t do us any good to do all this work if people don’t see it. If you have friends you think might find our emails interesting, please encourage them to sign up by sending them the link here. Thank you very much.

We need your support to continue doing the work that we do. I don’t think that there is any organization with as small of a budget that regularly produces as much as we do. Thank you very much. .
