There are so many stories making up the mosaic of national/international news that we can’t cover them all every week. The biggest stories now seem to be: Israel and Iran, the Trump presidency (lawfare and judges), immigration (migrants and illegals), wars, weaponization of government (the deep state) against Trump and conservatives, our nation’s debt, massive inflation, climate change controversy and related expenses of government, industry attempting to address these issues, the Chinese threat, national security, abortion, taxpayer cuts, Ukraine peace, and hatred and violence against Christians. Here are just a few:

President Donald Trump announced Monday his plan to activate hundreds of National Guard troops and federalize the Metropolitan Police Department to address violent crime in the District of Columbia.

I’m officially invoking Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, you know what that is, and placing the DC Metropolitan Police Department under direct federal control.”

Texas Supreme Court Sets ‘Expedited’ Brief Schedule For Governor’s Suit To Remove Runaway House Democrats
The Texas Supreme Court set an “expedited” schedule for briefs to be filed by the parties involved in Governor Greg Abbott’s lawsuit to vacate the House seat of Rep. Gene Wu. The schedule requires all briefs to be filed and responded to by September 4.
In a statement on social media, Governor Abbott said the order from the State’s highest court brings consequences for fleeing House Democrats one step closer to reality. “Closer to consequences for Texas Democrats running away from their duties and spending the summer in California and Illinois,” Abbott wrote on X.
Under the expedited schedule, the governor must file his brief by August 20. The respondents must file their response brief by August 29, and the governor has until September 4 to file a reply, if necessary.
Last week, Governor Abbott filed a lawsuit against Rep. Wu, the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, to declare his seat vacant.

Whistleblower Fired After Exposing Huge Scam: Multiple Kentucky Driver’s License Branch Employees Secretly Sold Driver’s Licenses To Potentially Thousands Of Illegal Aliens For Several Years
Melissa Moorman worked at Louisville’s Nia Center Licensing Branch through Quantum Solutions, a staffing agency contracted by the state to help staff regional offices for 2 years and 3 months before she was fired. Moorman was fired after interviewing with an investigator following her brave testimony about co-workers allegedly secretly selling licenses to illegal aliens for $200 each. The brave whistleblower said the driver’s license scam was taking place between 4-5 times per day for at least two years. According to Moorman, the licenses for illegal aliens scam took place in multiple Kentucky licensing branches.
Moorman stepped forward and blew the whistle on fellow employees after she was approached by two of them who asked her to join their fraudulent scheme, which puts driver’s licenses in the hands of “undocumented workers” without having to take the required tests to obtain a legal license.
The undocumented workers would come into the office in groups. They were then provided with either permits or driver’s licenses illegally. So, they would bypass without even taking a test,” the whistleblower claimed, adding that this happened “up to five times a day.”
In October 2024, Moorman says she and her supervisor submitted a letter to KYTC detailing the fraud. The two workers she reported were terminated in late 2024, according to her lawsuit. In January 2025, a detective interviewed her at work — and she says she was fired later that same day.

Democrats Fume Over Federal Agents Gathering For Immigration Raid Alongside Gavin Newsom Presser
Federal agents were reportedly gathering for an immigration raid outside a press conference with California Gov. Gavin Newsom in Downtown Los Angeles. Newsom had been scheduled to speak at the Japanese American National Museum in Little Tokyo at the time of the raid, per KTLA5. Just outside in the Little Tokyo area, however, about 100 federal agents gathered, presumably for another immigration raid.
Newsom’s press office announced the intended raid on social media. “BORDER PATROL HAS SHOWED UP AT OUR BIG BEAUTIFUL PRESS CONFERENCE! WE WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED!” it said.

Newsom’s Gerrymander Will Eliminate 4 Of 9 Republican Districts
California Governor Gavin Newsom’s plan to gerrymander California’s congressional districts will eliminate at least four Republican-held districts, while securing Democratic control of four other contested seats. Currently, Republicans only hold nine of California’s 52 congressional seats (17%).
Under the new map that the governor wants to present to voters in a special election in November, Republicans will hold five seats (just under 10%). Nearly 40% of California voters chose Republican candidates in the last election in 2024, on a map created by an “independent” redistricting commission.
Politico reported that Republicans Doug LaMalfa, Kevin Kiley, Ken Calvert, and Darrell Issa would lose their seats under the gerrymandering plan, while Democrats Josh Harder, Adam Gray, George Whitesides, Derek Tran, and Dave Min would enjoy additional protection from potential Republican challengers in 2026.
