Editor’s note: It appears that new Speaker of the House Republican Mike Johnson has already broken his promise not to continue current funding levels and laws via what they don’t seem to want to call a Continuing Resolution- all the way to the end of the fiscal year- 9-30-24. Current spending levels are a huge increase over previous administrations’ and Congress’. “Spending cuts” of $16 billion announced are just a 1% drop in the bucket reduction from a $1.590 trillion authorization likely to be approved. Objectionable laws and provisions will also be carried forward.
This is a huge debt and deficit inducer. Four trillion dollar deficits and a $34 trillion dollar national debt are now occurring. Interest alone on the national debt is creeping up toward $1 trillion annually.
