Vacancy on Essential Housing Advisory Board

In May 2017, the Board adopted a resolution creating the Essential Housing Advisory Committee (formerly known as the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee) to review affordable housing and strategize on ways to bring more affordable housing to our community.

There is currently one vacancy on the Essential Housing Advisory Board. Florida Statutes, Chapter 420.9076, mandates that the committee be comprised of at least eight, but no more than eleven members.

Below are background/criteria recommended to be considered for appointment:

  • A citizen who is actively engaged in the banking or mortgage industry with a connection to affordable housing
  • A citizen who is a representative of those areas of labor actively engaged in home building in connection with affordable housing
  • A citizen who represents employers within the jurisdiction

If you meet any of the above criteria and are interested in serving, please email your resume to Joshua Macbeth at [email protected] by the close of business on Friday, January 12, 2024.

EHAC meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 4:00 p.m. in the Commission Chambers located at 96135 Nassau Place, Yulee, FL 32097. These are volunteer positions therefore, members do not receive any compensation for their time and/or service.

Nassau Vision 2050 and Bicentennial Kick-off Celebration
The countdown is on! Nassau County is turning 200 (est. 1824), on December 29, 2024, for those marking your calendars. To commemorate our Bicentennial, the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners is hosting events and activities all year long to celebrate our history, while also working with the community to help sculpt our future through the Nassau Vision 2050 exercise.

Evans Rendezvous Planning Meetings

On Saturday, December 2, 2023, the County hosted a community meeting to discuss the potential use of the Evans’ Rendezvous, a historical structure that served as a restaurant and entertainment venue in the American Beach Community. Several dozen residents were in attendance and shared ideas on what they envision for the site’s future.

The third community meeting will take place on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. a the American Beach Community Center. Everyone is invited to attend.

New Chairman and Vice-Chairman Appointed

The Board of County Commissioners held their annual organizational meeting on Monday, November 27, 2023, during which the Board voted that District One Commissioner John Martin will serve as the Board Chairman for 2024, with District Two Commissioner “Hupp” Huppmann serving as Vice-Chairman. As Chairman, Commissioner Martin will be responsible for managing the Board of County Commissioner meetings and signing official documents on behalf of the Board. Should the Chairman be absent for any reason, the Vice-Chairman will run the meetings and sign documents on his behalf. 

This change will go into effect on January 1, 2024 and will remain in place through December 2024.
