Press Release

By Citizens Defending Freedom- Nassau County, 8-10-23

Thanks to the Citizens Journal for covering this important school budget oversight issue. The decisions made by the school board indicate a series of actions that appears to be counter to wishes of the people who voted for Superintendent Burns and the School Board Members.   Nassau-Citizens Defending Freedom and especially Rich Lamken, have been watching the budget and asking questions for some time.

Lamken opinion piece July 2022 Lamken opinion piece Oct 2022     There are some questions that the School Board and Superintendent need to answer in public. See questions below.

Upcoming:
School Board Workshop – Budget
Monday, August 14, 2023
1201 Atlantic Avenue
Fernandina Beach, Florida 32034
(904) 491-9900
5:30 p.m.

You can ASK THE SCHOOL BOARD this Thursday. The School Board has a Budget Workshop at 5:00 at the School District office at 1201 Atlantic Avenue. (Across from the city tennis courts) They may or may not accept public comments at the workshop.   At 6:00 school board follows with a regular monthly meeting. You will definitely have an opportunity to speak at the 6:00 meeting. Just fill out a speaker form.

Questions for the Superintendent and School Board:

Why do they insist that oversight council ONLY look at 5% of the budget? The citizen council should look at the ENTIRE budget. Nassau – CDF has been asking for this for months.

Why would the they block the most qualified candidate for the Citizens Oversight Council? That is Rich Lamken.

Why did they select someone with radical ideas? How were the appointees evaluated and selected? What background details were provided to the board to make their decisions?

Was the board fully informed to make this decision purposefully?

If Board Member Hogue and Assistant Superintendent Durham gave Lamken such high marks in the interview, why did Lamken not make the cut?

If you don’t ask questions, does that mean that you agree that a citizen review board should not have access to the full budget – just 5%?   Does not asking questions mean that you agree that the most qualified candidates should NOT represent the people of Nassau County?
