My name is Kristi Loyd Simpkins, and I am seeking your support in my campaign to become the new representative for District 4 on the Nassau County School Board.
As a lifelong resident of Hilliard, my educational journey began right here in Nassau County. After graduating from Hilliard Middle-Senior High School, I discovered my passion for teaching. This led me to earn an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Jacksonville University and a graduate degree in Educational Leadership from the University of North Florida.
Desiring to return to the community where I was raised, I started my professional career teaching Kindergarten and First Grade at Callahan Elementary. I then progressed to the role of principal at Hilliard Elementary and eventually became Nassau County’s Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction. My retirement from the Nassau County School System in 2021 marked a transition to further service in education, leading me to accept the role of principal at Folkston Elementary School just across our county line.
When asked why I want to serve on our school board, the answer is clear: working in Nassau County has been more than a job—it has been my life’s work. My 30 years of service have shaped me into the educator I am today. Here, my husband Bobby and I raised our three children, Haley, Hannah, and Robert, whose successes as adults directly reflect the excellent education they received. It is also where we hope to see our future grandchildren thrive.
If elected, I vow to prioritize:
Safety and Security: Ensuring students are safe and secure on campus is crucial for fostering a positive learning environment, addressing both internal and external challenges.
Fiscal Responsibility and Transparency: I am dedicated to the wise use of tax dollars, prioritizing education, safety and fair pay for educators and staff. I will seek better funding sources to reduce the tax burden on residents and ensure financial transparency, encouraging input on expenditures and savings.
Enhancing Our Educational Environment: I am committed to providing our teachers and support staff with the necessary resources and environment for exceptional education. I will focus on recruiting and retaining high-quality staff. I will advocate for the adoption of evidence-based practices to boost student outcomes and elevate school performance. Further, I will continuously evaluate and refine programs and initiatives to meet the evolving needs of our students and community, ensuring transparency in the curriculum for stakeholders.
Open, constructive dialogue among well-informed and educated board members, coupled with cooperation between the board and our community, can facilitate even the most challenging tasks. This is what our school and community deserve, and it is what you should demand. Ultimately, we must work together.
