What started out as a Nassau Citizens Defending Freedom (Nassau CDF) initiative to remove obscene and harmful library books from Nassau County Schools has turned into a grassroots effort led by parents and citizens who are fed up. Read on. The children need your help!

The school district erroneously thought that they were dealing with just Jack Knocke and Nassau CDF. When in fact, Nassau County parents, citizens and former school employees have been behind the effort from the beginning. Because of the nature of the political landscape, most people were reluctant to stand up for fear of retaliation. This is a story that current teachers and administrators have been sharing with Nassau CDF for years. The time for standing in the corner and putting up with it is over.
When the first parent stepped up by objecting to 4 obscene books, the school district quickly and conveniently shared her name with the News Leader for an article published 5 days later. The intimidation did not work. Now more parents and citizens are fearlessly stepping up. You can join them by clicking the link below.
Retired Judge John Meisburg has prepared a simple and straightforward tool that anyone can use to object to a book – parents, teachers, students, citizens – anyone can object. By law, anyone can object to one book per month. Parents have NO LIMIT to how many books they can object to.

Postscript
While Nassau CDF successfully worked with school officials to remove 34 books from our schools, the School Superintendent along with the School Board Attorney recommended the School Board PUT THE BOOKS BACK on the library shelves and the School Board voted to return them.
Superintendent Burns has been hostile to Nassau CDF in public comments at school board meetings because Nassau CDF has been the face of the objections. Burns insists that Nassau CDF should recognize and bow to the A-rated school system in Nassau County. Unfortunately, the watered-down A-rating includes achievement of a 62% to qualify for an “A” in most schools.
Our students are learning despite Superintendent Burns and the radical position she has taken regarding the obscene books, mental health curriculum, lack of transparency, irresponsible spending, misrepresentations on the millage referendum and cronyism/nepotism in hiring that has weakened our Nassau School leadership team.
Many thanks to our high quality and dedicated Nassau County Teachers! Hang in there. It will get better.
