Merry Christmas!
Amanda Collins Johnson, a fellow at the Crime Prevention Research Center, has her first op-ed piece that we worked on at Townhall on the mass murder at the University of Nevada being another gun-free zone. She then interviewed on Las Vegas’ giant 50,000-watt KXNT radio station. I also discussed that we have had yet another attack in a gun-free zone on Lars Larson’s national and northwest radio shows.
Our new report on the number of concealed handgun permits and the impact of Constitutional Carry has gotten extensive coverage. The Washington Times had a long front-page story on our report, and it received other coverage in places such as the Washington Examiner.
A post that I had on Twitter addressed the exchange between Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) and the Yale School of Public Health’s dean over crime in Republican and Democrat areas. Fox News interviewed me extensively on the question. I also appeared on the national Armed American Radio show to discuss the exchange. The DeSantis-Newsom debate also raised the issue, and our research generated interest. Grant Stinchfield had me on his TV show and Bill Cunningham on his national radio show.
My recent testimony before the US Commission on Civil Rights got me on Bill Martinez’s national radio show.
On the amusing side, Bloomberg’s Everytown has blocked the Crime Prevention Research Center’s Twitter account. They joined Shannon Watts and others who got tired of us posting factual responses to their claims.
We have also continued collecting cases where people legally carrying guns in public have stopped crimes. Here are the cases that we collected for September.
We are finishing up our end-of-the-year fundraising, and despite the chance to receive two different matching donations, those donations are coming in slowly. The first generous offer from Joseph Olson, a retired law school professor in Minnesota, means we will receive up to $10,000 for new donors who help us out over the next month. However, there are a couple of restrictions before we get this money: 1) the contributions must come from people who haven’t previously donated to us, and 2) Olson will match donations up to $200. To receive all $10,000, we will have to get 50 gifts of $200 or, say, 100 donations of $100 or some other similar breakdown. The other matching donation is from an anonymous donor and is unrestricted. Any donations up to the first $15,000 we receive will be matched dollar for dollar.
This means that each dollar donated from new donors up to $200 will be tripled, and all other donations up to $15,000 will be doubled. Our fundraising has started off slowly, and I hope that we can pick this up some.
I try not to bother you all more than twice a year, and your support is incredibly important for the work that we need to do. And I want you to know how much we greatly appreciate your support.
Thank you very much.
