Bill Leeper
Nassau County Sheriff
Sheriff Bill Leeper is a true Nassau County Native. He is a Retired Captain from the Florida Highway Patrol after 35 years and former City Commissioner and Mayor of Fernandina Beach. Sheriff was elected in 2012 and re-elected again in 2016. To add to all the information above we would be remiss to leave out the fact that in 2006 he was drafter by the New York Mets and played professional baseball.
The Sheriff brings a strong hometown feeling for the citizens of Nassau County. He continues to show his commitment to it’s citizens by his involvement in a multitude of events in the County. Each year he and the Chief of Police for Fernandina Beach work with citizens in the “Shop with Cops” program. There are many, many programs the NCSO is involved in daily. The Sheriff’s department provides frequent information on NCSO on their Facebook page.
Jeffrey Tambasco
Police Chief
Prior to coming to the Fernandina Beach Police Department, Chief Tambasco retired from the Kissimmee Police Department as a Captain and since his retirement has served as the Desoto County (FL) Emergency Manager. He started with the Fernandina Beach Police Department in June 2021, serving as the second-in-command. In this position he assisted in creating policy, the management of the Fernandina Beach Police Department budget and the management of the day-to-day operations. He was officially sworn in as the Chief on November 7, 2023.

SHOP WITH COPS
The Fernandina Beach Police Department began its very successful Shop with Cops program in 2004 and now serves more than 150 local school children each year, providing the opportunity to shop with a police officer at the Amelia Island Walmart store, while insuring that many of our underprivileged kids experience the joy of Christmas.
Donations are collected all year long and every penny donated translates directly to Christmas toys and much needed clothing. Our program participants are selected by local school guidance counselors, who make sure that only the truly needy are given the opportunity to participate in this unique program, which was inspired by local resident Don Monahan. Donations may be tax deductible.
