Amelia Musical Playhouse is announcing a casting call for 2 women and 3 men for their November production. Auditions will be held at the Playhouse on July 9 at 4 p.m. The show will run November 9,10,11,12 and will be directed by Bill Ivin.
Actors interested in auditioning will be asked to read a scene from the script and may be asked to read more than once with other actors. They will need to be able to use different sounding voices for different characters. There are also a couple of songs which the ensemble sings together. NOTE: Actors will have scripts to reference throughout the show.
Synopsis: It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, is adapted by Joe Landry from the screenplay by Frances Goodrich, Albert Hackett, Frank Capra, and Jo Swerling. This beloved American holiday classic comes to captivating life as a live 1940s radio broadcast. With the help of an ensemble that brings a few dozen characters to the stage, the story of idealistic George Bailey unfolds as he considers ending his life one fateful Christmas Eve.
Characters: Jake Laurents (20s -30s) – The actor portraying Young George/ George Bailey Freddie Filmore (30s-50s) – An actor who works for the radio station. He portrays 15 different characters. Harry “Jazzbo” Heywood (30s-50s) – An actor who works for the radio station. He portrays 12 different characters. Sally Applewhite (20s-30s) – The actress portraying Young Mary/ Mary Bailey Lana Sherwood (30s-40s) – An actor who works for the radio station. She portrays 11 different characters. Folly Operator (20–60s) – This person creates all of the sound effects for the radio show, and is on stage.
Also needed is a Stage Manager to be in costume and speak a few lines, and a Piano Player, in costume and on stage throughout.
WIZARD OF OZ
This is the well known, regular, full version of the Wizard of Oz. Adults will be cast in our lead roles and chorus and a minimal amount of children 10 and older will be cast in the chorus. Oz is directed by Beth Perkins.
