Amelia Island Museum of History June’s Brown Bag Lunch Tells the Story of the Green Cross!

June 5, 2024 | 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Brown Bag Lunch

Wednesday, June 5th at noon

In June of 1817, a small militia landed on the north end of Amelia Island. Led by the Scottish adventurer Gregor MacGregor, this 55-man troop took control of the island without ever firing a shot! Presented by long-time museum docent Chip Kirkpatrick, this presentation will explore Amelia Island’s most famous charlatan and MacGregor’s period of control here, during which the short-lived Green Cross flag was raised over Fernandina. This chaotic episode of our local history was brief, but left a permanent mark on our community—so join us on Wednesday, June 5th, to learn more!

Attendance is free and open to the public and attendants may bring their lunch. Seating is limited on a first come, first served basis. This program is wheelchair accessible.
