February 9, 2024 Dear Mr. Miller, Thank you for contacting me regarding the crisis at our Southern border. I appreciate hearing from you. The Biden Administration has failed to enact any sort of effective border policy, and we are now seeing the disastrous results. Vice President Harris, who was tasked with overseeing the border crisis, has only visited the border once and has been silent in the wake of recent border surges. Not only has the Biden Administration refused to address the border crisis, but their immigration policies have actually made the situation worse than ever. When asked, many of those attempting to illegally cross the border cited President Biden and Vice President Harris’ promise to keep the border open. Instead of supporting our law enforcement, the Biden Administration has criticized frontline border patrol agents for doing the very task they were asked to perform. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit the Southern border for myself. I saw first-hand the crisis that the disastrous policies put forth by the Biden administration is causing for local communities. Children are unable to play in the front yard, and parents have to worry about schools being on lockdown multiple times per week. We cannot allow our fellow Americans to live their everyday lives scared about who is around the corner. We need leaders to take action. Following my visit to the Southern border, I was proud to cosponsor H.R. 163, the Security First Act. This legislation would designate narcotrafficking organizations, or cartels, as Terrorist Organizations. It also provides additional funding for resources that can be utilized by local law enforcement, and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP). As your Representative in Congress, I will continue to support common-sense immigration reform to secure our border while holding our nation’s leaders accountable for this disaster. Like you, I am deeply concerned about the surge of illegal border crossings, human and drug trafficking, and the failed leadership of the Biden Administration, including Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. You may be pleased to know, I recently joined my House colleagues in cosponsoring H.Res.8, to impeach Alejandro Nicholas Mayorkas, Secretary of Homeland Security, for high crimes and misdemeanors. As the head of the Department of Homeland Security, Secretary Mayorkas has been complicit in the handling of the border disaster, and it is time to hold him accountable for his inaction. Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me to share your thoughts regarding the crisis at our Southern border. I hope you will continue to reach out with any questions or concerns, or to share your thoughts on any issues important to you. Hearing from my constituents is vital to my decision-making process. As a resident of Florida’s Fourth District, your comments and opinions are an important source of information to help me carry out my duties as your federal representative. In that regard, please do not hesitate to contact me in the future on any issue important to you. Also, if you would like to be informed more frequently about my work in Congress and in Florida’s Fourth Congressional District, please visit my website at https://bean.house.gov/ to sign up for regular emails or to send me a message.
