PROJECTS/OPERATIONS:

Florida Public Utilities continues work on their storm protection plan. This work consists of
undergrounding utilities in select locations and the cutting back of encroaching limbs
from power lines. This vegetation management plan results in pruning on a four year
cycle.

The US Army Corps of Engineers (Jacksonville District) will be mobilizing soon to cut down
the escarpment line on the north end of City beaches following erosion from Hurricane
Erin.

The repair of the manhole covers on 8 Street is still in progress. Expect partial lane
closures during these repairs.

Concrete sidewalks and curbing are currently being installed along North 2 as part of
the streetscape redevelopment project. Portions of North 2 are temporarily open to
pedestrian traffic only.

The MLK Jr Sports fields Redevelopment project is in the final stages of design. Design
documents will shared with the community and advisory boards in the upcoming weeks.

The “Grocery Getter” shuttle service to the Winn-Dixie in Yulee started this week with several residents taking advantage.

FDEP will be collecting sonar data near our shores for a Seafloor Mapping Initiative.
The vessel pictured here or one similar will be here for the next few months.

The men’s locker rooms at the Atlantic Rec Center have been remodeled and are back open for use.

In exchange for a patrol car the City donated to the Nassau County School Board, the City
received a school bus for use in Parks and Recreation programming.
