PROJECTS/OPERATIONS:
The Beech Street Bridge within the Ron Sapp Egan’s Creek Greenway is currently closed
for renovation. The bridge was constructed in 2003 by the Florida Department of
Transportation. This project will be complete by the end of July.


The beach renourishment project is substantially complete. Demobilization is underway
and all piping and equipment are being removed. The last task in this project will be
mechanical tilling of the beach. This process will take three days to complete and work
will begin Monday, July 21.


Improvements to the sports complex at the Martin Luther King Recreation Center are
currently in design. This future project will include new sports fields and related amenities


The first budget workshop is scheduled for August 5. The City Commission will review the
draft FY2025/2026 budget and the City’s 5-year Capital Improvement Plan.


The North 2 Street redevelopment project will be starting mid-August. This streetscape
project involves the undergrounding of utilities, improvements to stormwater
infrastructure, installation of new sidewalks, and street paving.

We are honored to be the host of the Preservation on Main Street conference. City staff and Commissioners took Secretary of State Cord Byrd, Florida State Senator Clay Yarborough, and Representative Dean Black on a tour.

The Water Department replaced a section of the City’s water main near the Peck Center. Due to their diligence, no boil water notice was required.

The Beech St Bridge renovation project is partially funded by a FDEP Grant. Project will be complete by the end of July.

A Garden Group was started at the Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport. Information on their activities is included in the News/Promotions section of this report.

NEWS/PROMOTIONS:


The Airport Garden Group (AGG), affiliated with Keep Nassau Beautiful, donated more than 1,100 pounds of fresh produce to local charities in Nassau County, all of which was grown in their community garden located at the Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport. AGG presently has 17 lots with almost 30 active gardeners. Email them at [email protected] to get involved.
