PROJECTS/OPERATIONS:
Florida Public Utilities continues work on their storm protection plan. This work consists of
undergrounding utilities in select locations and the cutting back of encroaching limbs
from power lines. Their vegetation management plan results in pruning on a four year
cycle.
The Florida League of Cities has published a Property Tax Educational Toolkit that
provides information to specific municipalities. It can be viewed on their website:

The repair of manhole covers on South 8 St is still in progress. Expect partial lane
closures during these repairs.
The City’s budget process continues on schedule. On September 3 , the City Commission
will hold a public hearing and vote on the final millage rate and the tentative budget.
The future of the iconic 47-year-old Peg-Leg Pete statue is currently under review by
engineers and local board(s). This signature pirate stands on Centre Street in front of the
Amelia Island Welcome Center in Downtown Fernandina Beach.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District cut down the escarpment lines on City beaches as part of the Shore Stabilization project’s post-construction activity.
City staff is working with FDOT on installing a crosswalk at the intersection of Jasmine and S Fletcher to increase pedestrian safety.
City Utilities crews have been working between the rains to install a new drainage system on North 2 Street.

OPEN on Labor Day from 9:00am-2:00pm
The City’s Parks and Recreation Department is
hosting a free, fun for all ages Fall Festival on
September 20, from 12-4:00pm at the Atlantic
Recreation Center (2500 Atlantic Ave). We will have
games, prizes, treats, a floating pumpkin patch
activity at the pool, and more! Bring your own suit
and towel for the floating pumpkin patch.
