Big news: This Thursday, HB 1539 will be heard in the House Education & Employment Committee. Why it matters: Florida students are being exposed to obscene materials in schools—materials proven to harm their mental health. 🔒 HB 1539 (filed by Rep. Doug Bankson, companion bill SB 1692 by Sen. Stan McClain) would protect children by closing loopholes that currently allow harmful content to remain in schools. 📊 The research is clear: – Exposure leads to sexual callousness, distorted beliefs, and permissive attitudes – A 2023 study found strong links between pornography, anxiety, depression, and identity struggles in youth. 🚫 Current law is being misused: – Some districts use Part C of the Miller Test to justify keeping books that violate F.S. 1006.28. – HB 1539 would restore the Miller Test’s original purpose and ensure Florida law is enforced properly. 🛡️ Florida must protect kids’ mental health, not put it at risk. ✅ Take action now → Tell the House to support HB 1539 and stand with Florida’s children. Together, we can build resilient children and a stronger Florida. Ryan KennedyPolicy and Advocacy DirectorFlorida Citizens Alliance Click Here to Sign the Petition |
