Florida Among Top 10 U.S. States Where Boating Could Leave You Injured, Study Finds

A new study revealed that Florida has the third highest recreational boating injury risk in the U.S.
The research conducted by Steve Gimblin Personal Injury & Car Accident Lawyers analyzed data from the U.S. Coast Guard’s Registered Boating Accident Statistics. The study measured and ranked states based on boating injuries per 100,000 registered boats to identify which states face the greatest recreational boating risks.
Florida ranks third with 43.90 average boating injuries per 100,000 registered boats, which is 110.6% higher than the national average of 20.84. The Sunshine State, with 962,096 registered boats on average, recorded an average of 422 boating injuries each year between 2019 and 2023, reporting the highest number of injuries in 2020 with 514 cases, while the lowest was in 2023 with 368 cases.
A spokesperson from Steve Gimblin Personal Injury & Car Accident Lawyers commented on the findings:
“According to the study, states like Florida demonstrate the third most urgent need for boating safety interventions.
“High recreational boating injury rates in states with large numbers of registered boats reveal a pressing need for enhanced boating education, improved safety equipment, and stricter enforcement of boating regulations. When injury rates exceed the national average by more than 100%, implementing proven safety measures becomes not just important, but essential for protecting boaters and saving lives.”
