At approximately 09:04 AM, Fernandina Beach Fire Department (FBFD) and Nassau County Fire Rescue (NCFR) units were dispatched to the commercial site. First unit arrival occurred at 09:09 AM, where fire personnel encountered an active fire involving a conveyor belt on the manufacturing line. The fire was located outside the main structures and near a large mulch pile, requiring a rapid and strategic response to prevent potential extension.
Firefighters utilized immediate suppression tactics and brought the fire under control by approximately 09:24 AM. Crews then initiated extensive overhaul procedures to ensure all residual heat and embers were cooled, preventing any fire spread to the nearby manufacturing equipment or mulch pile.
The scene was declared safe and fully turned over to RYAM personnel at 10:59 AM.
FBFD Fire Chief Jeremy Holmes expressed thanks for the coordinated effort. “This incident highlights the professionalism of our crews and the indispensable value of our mutual aid partnership with Nassau County Fire Rescue,” said Chief Holmes.
