There are so many stories making up the mosaic of national/international news that we can’t cover them all every week. The biggest stories now seem to be: Israel and Iran, the Trump presidency (lawfare and judges), immigration (migrants and illegals), wars, weaponization of government (the deep state) against Trump and conservatives, our nation’s debt, massive inflation, climate change controversy and related expenses of government, industry attempting to address these issues, the Chinese threat, national security, abortion, taxpayer cuts, Ukraine peace, and hatred and violence against Christians. Here are just a few:

Donald Trump Moves To Pay U.S. Troops Despite Shutdown

President Donald Trump is taking steps to ensure that U.S. service members receive their paychecks next week despite the ongoing government shutdown, directing his administration to find and allocate available funds as congressional gridlock threatens military pay.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump announced he had ordered Secretary of War Pete Hegseth “to use all available funds to get our Troops PAID on October 15th.” He affirmed, “We have identified funds to do this, and Secretary Hegseth will use them to PAY OUR TROOPS.” The president emphasized that he would not allow Democrats “to hold our Military, and the entire Security of our Nation, HOSTAGE, with their dangerous Government Shutdown.”

Trump Administration Axes Dozens At CDC — Entire Washington Office

The Trump administration has reportedly implemented sweeping cuts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), targeting dozens of senior scientists and epidemiologists (commonly known as “disease detectives”) and even the agency’s entire Washington, D.C. office.

According to multiple media reports, layoff notices were sent late Friday evening, notifying affected CDC employees that their roles were being eliminated in connection with the ongoing federal government shutdown.

Among those impacted: senior researchers, members of the Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS), lab leadership fellows, and entire policy and administrative teams at CDC’s capital office. Employees were informed that their positions had been deemed “unnecessary” or “duplicative.”

The layoffs also hit the Epidemic Intelligence Service, the CDC’s storied team of “disease detectives” who deploy globally to investigate outbreaks. Nearly 70 officers were reportedly notified that their services were no longer required.

Gavin Newsom Signs Bill To Build Reparations Bureaucracy

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) has approved legislation establishing a new state agency tasked with administering programs for descendants of slaves, marking the latest step in his years-long effort to advance reparations policies despite ongoing political and fiscal challenges. The move follows years of stalled negotiations, activist pressure, and budget shortfalls, as Newsom continues working to push the issue forward in the nation’s most populous state.

The new law, Senate Bill 518, creates the Bureau for Descendants of American Slavery within the California Civil Rights Department. The bureau will be led by a governor-appointed deputy director and organized into three main divisions: Genealogy, Education and Outreach, and Legal Affairs. The agency will be responsible for verifying individual lineage, managing public education efforts about historical discrimination, and ensuring legal compliance as reparations-related initiatives expand.

Implementation of the bureau depends on future legislative appropriations, and the bill authorizes the agency to receive funding from federal, state, and private sources. The law also establishes privacy requirements for handling genetic and personal information and explicitly limits public access to that data.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) praised President Donald Trump and his administration for helping to make happen the release and safe return of 20 living Israeli hostages.

Schumer’s statement praising Trump and his administration comes as other Democrats such as former President Bill Clinton also stated that Trump and his administration, as well as Qatar and “other regional actors deserve great credit” for keeping Israel and Hamas “engaged until” the peace agreement was reached.

Erika Kirk Honors Late Husband Charlie In Emotional White House Tribute: ‘A Free Man Made Fully Free’

At a White House ceremony in the Rose Garden on Tuesday on what would have been her husband’s 32nd birthday, Erika Kirk accepted the Presidential Medal of Freedom on  behalf of Charlie Kirk and delivered a powerful, deeply personal tribute to his life and legacy.

“Thank you, Mr. President, for honoring my husband in such a profound way,” she began. “Charlie always admired your commitment to freedom.”

She offered thanks to the first lady, the vice president, and friends and family “watching from all around the world,” along with Turning Point USA staff and chapters nationwide. “You are the heartbeat of this future and of this movement,” she said. “Everything Charlie built lives through you.”

Erika recalled Charlie often saying that “without God, freedom becomes chaos” and that liberty can only survive “when anchored to truth.” She remembered him telling an audience: “The opposite of liberty isn’t law. It’s captivity. And the freest people in the world are those whose hearts belong to Christ.”

She ended with a final tribute: “To live free is the greatest gift, but to die free is the greatest victory. Happy birthday, Charlie. Happy freedom day.”

Trump Sends Incredible Message To Charlie Kirk With Engraving On Medal Of Freedom

President Donald Trump sent a message to his late friend Charlie Kirk with an engraving on the back of the Presidential Medal of Freedom that included his name and a cross.

Speaking later to Fox News’ Jesse Watters about the ceremony, Benny Johnson, pal of the late founder of Turning Point USA, told the host that Trump clearly understands the “power that Charlie Kirk brought to the advancement of the Kingdom of Christ, because Erika Kirk showed me something remarkable at the White House right before coming over here to do your show.”

“She opened up the medal of freedom….and then she turned it around back, and what you can see here on the back is the first Christian cross…ever engraved on to a Medal of Freedom given by the president,” Johnson said.

“This is a historic moment. The first time that religious iconography has ever made it on to this award,” he added. “And it is done in honor of Charlie Kirk. And what Erika told me was that this is for the advancement of what Charlie Kirk and his work are for the Kingdom of Christ. And the president understood that so profoundly that he gave him this great honor.”

The Voting Rights Act Probably Won’t Be ‘Gutted,’ But Supreme Court Appears Set To Restrain It

If you only read the headlines after the Supreme Court’s re-argument in Louisiana v. Callais, you’d think conservatives on the Court were sharpening their knives to “gut” the Voting Rights Act. The reality inside the courtroom was more nuanced—and, for those who actually care about constitutional limits, more encouraging.

The justices weren’t preparing to demolish Section 2. They were trying to rescue it from the legal contradictions that have plagued redistricting for forty years.

Fetterman Torches Dems on Shutdown

Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) criticized Democrats for the ongoing Schumer Shutdown, accusing them of holding the government hostage while suggesting they are prioritizing their party’s own interests over the best interests of the American people.

Fetterman made several comments during NewsNation’s live town hall at the Kennedy Center on Wednesday that demonstrate why he is considered a maverick among Democrats in the Senate. “I follow country, then party,” he explained.

“You don’t hold the government hostage,” Fetterman added, noting that the Schumer shutdown is “what the Democratic Party wants to do.”
