PROJECTS/OPERATIONS:
Florida Public Utilities continues work on their storm protection plan. This work consists
of undergrounding utilities in select locations and the cutting back of encroaching
limbs from power lines. This vegetation management plan results in pruning on a 4
year cycle.
The North 2 St area is still closed for construction. The undergrounding of utilities and
the pouring of new curbs & sidewalks are currently in progress.
The Greenery is performing annual palm tree pruning within the Downtown area.
The Fernandina Beach Golf Club continues to show an increase in daily play due to
improved course conditions. Make sure to take advantage of this cooler weather and
visit the City golf course.
US Coast Guard ‘Aids to Navigation Team’ has been working diligently on the alignment
and positioning of the light inside the Amelia Island Lighthouse. We are happy to report
functionality has been restored.
Strong wind and the full moon cycle combined to bring King Tide conditions to our coast causing temporary road closures to areas of the downtown.
A collaborative effort between the City, County, and Babe Ruth League has resulted in upgraded batting cages at the Buccaneer Fields. Grand opening info forthcoming.
Business owners must pay for their tax receipt renewals and/or resort rentals prior to
September 30. Call the Building Department (904) 310-3135 with questions.
The Board of the Florida City and County Manager’s Association met in Fernandina this week. City Manager, Sarah Campbell, is the acting president of the organization.
