Most of you already know that Charlie Kirk, a supernova advocate of Christian Conservativism, was assassinated today. Most would acknowledge that he was greatest leader of youth in this realm, having established Turning Point, which grew hundreds of chapters in higher education institutions and thousands of affiliated organizations/chapters.
Elders had almost written off the younger generations as lost to Progressivism, Communism, Atheism, even nihilism, but Charlie had begun to make a big dent in that.
As a sharp, young, motivated man, familiar with the culture and ethos of his generation, Charlie was able to do much to positively influence youth that politicians and even clergy could not. He influenced literally millions of people and helped energize and turn the direction of debate at universities and media nationwide. Leftists were confused and infuriated about his “change my mind” debates where he devastated “politically correct” arguments and substituted better solutions with apparent ease and more importantly, inspired and taught others to do it as well.
Charlie had much furious opposition. A quick online search shows more opposition to him than support, yet he made tremendous progress in recruiting and organizing youth to Christian Conservatism and family values. He has been falsely accused of “polarizing”, racism, white supremacy, anti LGBTQ, and rightly accused of being anti-DEI, anti Muslim- anything they can throw up on the wall to stop or discredit him. Thousands have signed petitions or shown up in force to block him from speaking on campuses- a contradiction of professed rights of free speech- then finally, a bullet.
His opponents were very threatened by his ideas, presentation and the strong support from youth that he garnered. To many young people, he was (and still will continue to be) a rock star. Opponents went to great lengths to attempt to block or disrupt his events, which were often held at universities or other public forums, many times via threats of violence or disruption. They were not usually bluffing. He also spread his ideas and organization though astute use of electronic media.
We met Charlie in California through Calvary Chapel. He worked with our Pastor, Rob McCoy, on projects for Liberty University. Rob was offered a deanship there, but turned it down due to his commitments locally. Charlie would make electrifying speeches at our church when he was in town and gave much hope to embattled Christian Conservatives in that uber-blue state.
While friends and relatives are in deep mourning, I instead see a guy who pursued his righteous agenda, was hugely successful, had a wonderful family and friends, changed the course of history, left a legacy which will greatly outlive him and almost certainly will end up in heaven. What a way to live and what a way to go, as a martyr, which will only increase his influence. He left behind many disciples, who will now proceed to multiply his good works and influence. I celebrate his life rather than just mourn his death.
I have noticed that most domestic violence is emanating from leftist people and thinking. Have you?
