Eighth grade reading scores from 2024 have plunged markedly since 2019. “Experts” are still using COVID as the reason. Florida has done particularly poorly and is among the worst in the nation for declines.

Florida had among the largest drops, leaving it in the middle of the pack in scores vs. other states:
