PROJECTS/OPERATIONS:


The Greenery will begin annual palm tree pruning next week (week of August 11 ) within
the Downtown area.

The City’s Capital Improvement Plan goes to the City Commission for review/approval at
the August 19 commission meeting. This five year plan serves as a link between the City
budget and City strategic plans.


The Putt-Putt at Main Beach will be re-opening for business by 8/15.


Improvements to the sports complex at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center are
currently in design. This future project will include new sports fields and related amenities.


The design and engineering for the rehabilitation of Atlantic Ace continues on schedule.
This FDOT funded and managed project is scheduled to begin in the Spring of 2026 and is
forecasted to take one year to complete.

We are happy recipients of 40 rubber barriers, thanks to Police Chief Tambasco applying for a grant. These barriers will reshape how we provide security during special events.

We celebrated National Lighthouse Day with the grand re-opening of the Amelia Island Lighthouse. Tours will resume later this month.

The restrooms at the Hickory Street Park are officially open! They will be open from dusk until dawn.

Teresa Prince was sworn in as City Attorney on Tuesday, August 5, at her first official City
Commission meeting.

NEWS/PROMOTIONS:
We are pleased to offer swim lessons for
beginner and advanced-beginner level
swimmers at the Martin Luther King Jr.
Recreation Center (1200 Elm Street). If you are
uncertain about your swimmer’s level, we
invite you to take advantage of our
placement test, available every Monday
through Saturday at 11:00am. Lessons are free
for City residents. Call (904) 310-3350 to ask
questions and get signed up.
