Cardinal Robert Prevost, now Leo XIV, is an American who also has Peruvian citizenship. He was a favorite of the late Pope Francis, who promoted and trusted him, but has often kept a fairly low public profile. But we do know that Prevost has multiple leftist opinions that align more with the Democrat party platform than with Catholic doctrine.
It is unfortunate that the first American pope is not Cardinal Raymond Burke, but he is too solid on doctrine for the cardinals appointed by the late, woke Pope Francis. Prevost, in contrast, helped implement Francis’s controversial plan to add women to the board that forwards bishop nominations to the pope.
