Successful Waste Tire Amnesty Day Event

On Saturday, November 9, 2024, Nassau County Public Works hosted the Waste Tire Amnesty Day Event. This event allowed Nassau County residents to dispose of up to 15 car or light truck tires for recycling. A total of 627 tires were collected during the three and a half hour event. All tires will be taken to Global Tire Recycling in Wildwood Florida.

Nassau Legislative Delegation Meets

On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, the Nassau County Legislative Delegation held a meeting to select the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Legislative Delegation, and to receive input ahead of the upcoming Legislative Session in Tallahassee. Senator Clay Yarborough and State Representative Dean Black listened as representatives from the County, City of Fernandina Beach, Towns of Hilliard and Callahan, School Board and several non-profit organizations explained their funding needs. Several individuals also spoke about Legislation they wish to see amended and/or introduced in support of various causes and issues important to them.

Bicentennial Scavenger Hunt Winners


Congratulations to our top two winners in our Bicentennial Scavenger Hunt!
Rodney Fuller completed all 23 challenges, earning a total of 198 points and winning a one-night stay at the Residence Inn by Marriott. Alta Bowen and Tricia Bowen worked together to complete all 23 challenges and earned a total of 190 points. They are the proud winners of a pass for two to the Amelia Island Escape Rooms.
We appreciate everyone that participated in the Bicentennial Scavenger Hunt. We hope that you had a great time and learned a lot of new and interesting things about Nassau County’s history.
Thank you as well to Residence Inn by Marriott Amelia Island and Amelia Island Escape Rooms for the generous donations.

3rd Annual Christmas Tree Lighting

Nassau County’s Bicentennial year-long birthday bash continues at the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting!
The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) invites you to a festive evening of joy and wonder at the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, December 6, 2024, from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Robert M. Foster Justice Center (76347 Veterans Way) in Yulee.
This FREE, family-friendly event is filled with holiday cheer! Get ready for live performances by the Nassau Community Band and the Royal Amelia Dance Academy. We’ll also have activities for all ages and interests, including a Holiday Vendor Market, Train Rides, Santa Village’s Photo Ops, Food Trucks, and a Kids Zone.
Don’t miss visiting the Vision 2050 Tent, which will be transformed into a Winter Wonderland! Journey through the Candy Cane Forest, explore the Sea of Swirly Twirly Gumdrops, and stroll along Jingle Bells Beach. Stop by Peppermint Point, Chestnut Cove, and other festive stations to share your thoughts on the Vision Plan’s Goals, Actions, and Final Growth Scenario. Collect festive stickers at each station to win a prize that will add sparkle to your holiday season!
Tree Decorating Contest

The County’s 3rd Annual Christmas Tree Lighting is scheduled for Friday, December 6, 2024. This year’s event will be bigger and better as we close-out our Bicentennial year.
To make the event extra festive, we are adding the element of a Tree Decorating Contest. All trees will be displayed at the event where the public can vote on their favorite tree and have a chance to take it home from the event. The business whose tree has the most votes will also win a prize!
HOW THE CONTEST WORKS
- Each participating business/organization will receive a 7ft. slim, pre-lit tree to decorate. Each group is responsible for picking their theme and purchasing/creating decorations;
- The deadline to decorate your tree is Wednesday, December 4, 2024;
- Parks & Recreation will reach out to participants to coordinate pickup and/or delivery or your tree.
