Turtle Talk Tuesday

This week for Turtle Talk Tuesday, Maurie Dugger with the Amelia Island Convention & Visitors Bureau discussed their partnership with the County in the funding and promotion of the Leave No Trace Ordinance. Adopted in 2016, this Ordinance prohibits personal items from being left on the beach in an effort to reduce impacts to nesting sea turtles and to protect the physical nature of the beach, turtles and shore birds.

Reporting Storm Damage

Nassau County experienced a lot of rain and wind the last few days. Nassau County Emergency Management released a message reminding residents that they can rapidly document and report damage through Crisis Track. Crisis Track allows you to send photos with a description and location. A copy of the report is also sent to Nassau County Public Works so they can start working on cleanup or repairs to public roads, culverts and ditches. If you have any questions, please contact NCEM at (904) 548-0900.

Temporary Road Closure on Daydream Avenue

Nassau County has received notification of a temporary road closure and detour on Daydream Avenue between State Road 200 and Homegrown Way. JEA has hired a contractor, DBE Utilities, to install 11,000 linear feet of 16-inch reclaimed water main pipe along State Road 200, from William Burgess Boulevard to the Tributary Subdivision.

Construction will primarily occur in the Florida Department of Transportation’s rights-of-way and easements. For the safety of the general public and the utility workers, the contractor will be required to temporarily close and detour traffic on Daydream Avenue beginning on June 19, 2023, with an estimated completion date of July 7, 2023.

Electronic message boards will be placed to inform motorists of the road closures. Motorists will not be permitted to drive through the project area, with the exception of accessing the FPL Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station on Daydream Avenue.

The work will not impact normal JEA water and/or sewer services.

If you have any questions, please reach out to JEA Project Outreach at (904) 665-7500 or [email protected]
