The news media were buzzing today about the latest indictment of Donald Trump. One publication, Just the News, had this to say about it:

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday was indicted as part of a special counsel Jack Smith’s federal grand jury probe into his efforts to challenge the 2020 election results and the former president’s role in the subsequent Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

Smith charged Trump with four counts, including conspiracy to defraud, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of, and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.

The indictment states that Trump “for more than two months following election day on November 3, 2020… spread lies that there had been outcome-determinative fraud in the election and that he had actually won.”

While it acknowledges Trump had a right to “speak publicly about the election and even to claim, falsely, that there had been outcome-determinative fraud during the election and that he had won,” it alleges a conspiracy and multitude of unlawful efforts of “discounting legitimate votes and subverting the election results.”

The indictment also acknowledges six unnamed co-conspirators with whom Trump allegedly did “conspire, confederate, and agree” to defraud the country.

Trump said Monday that he expected to be indicted “any day,” and earlier this month he revealed that the Justice Department informed him that he was a target in Smith’s probe.

This article only focuses on the prosecution’s case, not the defense’s, not exculpatory evidence left out. Same with most articles we scanned, nearly all of which were from known anti-Trump publications, as of press time (may change by the time you do this SEARCH).

When we searched later under Trump’s response to the indictment, we got more of the same, but also a few like this:

We will bring you news of the defense/Trump’s response to the charges, as it emerges.

Update: Here’s one:

Some say that a rather partisan Biden-appointed Attorney-General, a known Republican-bashing prosecutor, an Obama-appointed judge and an overwhelmingly Democrat jurisdiction venue do not exactly inspire confidence in the process. Accusations of “weaponizing” DOJ and FBI are more likely to gain traction in such an environment, especially after the now totally discredited “Russiagate” investigation, which was by Congress when the House was under Democrat control and all pro-Trump members were purged from the investigation.. There have been calls for a truly independent special prosecutor, which have so far been ignored by AG Garland.

Prosecutors, partisan media and politicians seem to think they have a pretty strong case. But, per fox44.com, Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, the third-ranking House Republican, called the indictment “an illegal attempt to interfere in the 2024 election.”

All of this is part of a broader effort to discredit and demonize Trump to destroy his candidacy for the 2024 Presidential election. It, especially the indictments, has had the strange effect of increasing both his negative and positive ratings, while catapulting him far into the lead in the Republican presidential primary polls, now running over 50% and far ahead of the many other candidates, in fact more than all of the other candidates combined in some recent polls.

The author researched and wrote several articles on the 2020 election shortly afterward and found quite a few indicators of alleged fraud but also some accusations that didn’t seem to hold up. Most compelling were the swing state election hearings and their many affidavits and testimonies, which were eye-popping, but received hardly a mention in the mainstream media. The courts weren’t willing to touch election fraud accusations. Most said there was insufficient evidence to demonstrate that Trump won, or that claims were “baseless.” Without legal discovery, we may never know.
