From CCDF-USA, Thanksgiving, 2022
In 1621, over 400 years ago, the Plymouth Pilgrims gathered together with their Wamponoag brethren and thanked God for His blessings, goodness, His continued providential care, and the generosity of their Native American neighbors.
As we gather again this year and thank God for His abundant blessings, His boundless grace, and His steadfast and unfailing love, let us also take time to reflect on our Nation and her rich history of traditions, freedoms, and liberty. We are a Nation of self-determination, boundless generosity, extraordinary courage, and an undying commitment to persevere in the face of adversity.
Our great Nation is no stranger to adversity. In the centuries that have passed since that first Thanksgiving, we have faced many trials, tests, and hardships, yet time and time again we have overcome. Now in 2022, America is again facing one of her greatest challenges, with her institutions, freedom of speech, and constitutional rights being threatened like never before.
However, in the midst of adversity: BUT GOD.
God has been with us since the Pilgrims set sail for the unknown to seek a future of religious freedom and hope. He has been with us as our Nation’s Founding Fathers fought to break free from England. He has been with us through wars, through plagues, through disasters, and He will be with us now.
As we gather today, we reaffirm our gratitude for all that we have enjoyed as a Nation; for the legacy left by those that came before us, for the hope and bright future that lies ahead, and above all else we give thanks to God for our many blessings. “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” – President John F. Kennedy, Thanksgiving Day, 1963.
