Opinion

By Kelley A Yates, October 24, 2024

In September, I attended the Federated Republican Women of Nassau (FRWN), which presented a Candidate Forum for proposed City Commission Seats 1, 2, and 3 with the following candidates.

City of Fernandina Beach Commissioner Seat 1 Bradley Bean (N) Joyce Tuten (N)

City of Fernandina Beach Commissioner Seat 2 Genece Minshew (N) David Sturges (N)

City of Fernandina Beach Commissioner Seat 3 Christy Kelly (N) Timothy Poynter (N)

The FRWN informed us via e-mail invitation of the Candidate Forum Process as follows

  • Each candidate will be given five minutes to introduce themselves and present their platforms.
  • At the end of the forum’s introduction segment, luncheon attendees will receive index cards to submit questions to the candidates.
  • Candidates will be allowed one to two minutes to answer each question.

The fact that the conservative group paying to attend this event would receive index cards to submit questions astonished me, and I felt this approach was a little controlled and contrived. I thought it was strange that we were being treated distrustfully. After all, most speakers during Q&A sessions are expected to be more organic and impromptu to help put people on the spot. So, the answer comes from their heart and is not scripted like we often see with fake politicians like Kamala Harris. Hence, I was disappointed with this strategy, so initially, I chose not to ask any questions. I was going to simply listen. Then, I changed my mind as soon as Miss Minshew came to speak. Her opening statement was, “I’m going to run an honest campaign with integrity.” Which was ludicrous and laughable. Nowhere on Miss Minshew’s website does it state that Minshew was previously the President and is now the current Treasurer of the Fernandina Beach LGBTQ Organization.

Consequently, I was eager to ask Miss Minshew about this and why, after running twice as a Democrat and losing, she has now decided to file herself as a Republican when clearly, she does not align with any conservative policies. Incidentally, the very day before she filed her papers to run for city Commissioner seat 2, why was she being deceitful?

So, I filled out a card and handed it to board member Miss Sarah Pelican. Unfortunately, my question was not answered. I heard from a couple of attendees who were equally disappointed because they had the same questions. It was clear to see Minshew was let off hook, line, and sinker! I left the event feeling somewhat disappointed with myself for not just shouting out my question rather than just sitting there like a diminutive child and allowing Minshew to pretend she was a well-meaning, honest candidate.

Disingenuous flip-flopper Minshew pictured below at the Fernandina Beach Pride Festival.

Pride! How Funny that Minshew is not Proud to state LGBTQ leadership anywhere on her campaign website!

It states on the Fernandina Beach Pride website, “Genece has been involved in social justice issues since 1975 when she first became involved in working for the Equal Rights Amendment, and years later, she is still working for social justice as a founding member of Fernandina Beach Pride. She and her partner of 39 years, Sue Simpson, are happily retired and love living here in beautiful Fernandina Beach. Fernandina Beach Pride is long past due and is an opportunity for the LGBTQ+ community to have a safe space and a voice in Nassau County.”

Okay, here’s our Christian conservative voice, Genece. We want our safe space from perverted people who think it okay to indoctrinate our children with queer theory. A cruel agenda that tells children they are born in the wrong body. An evil Satanist cult that promotes the mutilation of children and encourages children to take puberty blockers, aka chemical castration, which is normally given to people dying of cancer and pedophiles. An ideology that works hand in hand with Big Pharma and Big money! To assist children in becoming lifelong pharmaceutical patients and tell little girls aged 12 to have a double mastectomy! Ironically, these undesirable uncouth people wear tee shirts that say Be kind, when this irrational mindset is anything but kind.

Anyone who speaks out to address the litany of social issues we are witnessing in society, such unstable misogynistic men invading women’s and little girls’ safe space in bathrooms and women’s sports. Or make accountable corrupt woke institutions run by elite left-wing bigwigs are immediately vilified and demeaned by cyberbullying hate, filled trans activists, the same people that shout out and preach “Be inclusive!” That is until you don’t share their dementated options.

Another deceitful hypocrite is Minshew’s campaign BFF Progressive liberal activist Joyce Tuten who has conducted socially demeaning interviews with left-wing associations like Moving Forward, promoting segregation such as the insulting, racist term white privilege as well as sexism against women and little girls from radical Transvestite indoctrination. Note, dear ladies and gentlemen, I use the proper English word “transvestite” because transgender is a made-up woke word that civilized people should not accept. The reality is you cannot change your God-given sex. You cannot change your biology. Scary thought Joyce Tuten was previously a science teacher.

Joyce Tuten and Genece Minshew, who are both running a dirty, disingenuous campaign, are the perfect picture of toxic feminism.

Mr. Poynter switched to no party preference; however, he has allied his campaign with LGBTQ activist Minshew. When Poynter first registered to run for city commission, he even recruited Minshew as Campaign Treasurer. I was not impressed with him at all. He never smiled once and seemed very uncomfortable being there. When he was asked If he could answer his vote on the important, Florida State amendments. He refused to answer any of the questions and looked insulted at the very notion. Of course, disingenuous. Minshew and Tuten also refused to share their views about the proposed state amendments with the group. Such as voting no on Amendment 4, Which, if passed, would allow minors to have an abortion without their parent’s knowledge and normalize late-term abortion when the baby is fully developed and feels pain. Or voting No on Amendment 3, to keep children safe from public marijuana use near schools and parks.

Mr. David Poynter never smiled once and seemed very uncomfortable.

However, Miss Christy Kelly, Mr. Sturges, and Bradley Bean did not hesitate when asked what their choices as leaders would be on such critical social issues our culture is facing. Significant amendments to Florida’s constitution which would see a societal decline if voted inhumanely. I was relieved that these candidates were forthcoming and transparent with the people, and their choices were unanimous. Amendment 1, Yes. Amendment 2, Yes. Amendment 3, No. Amendment 4, No. Amendment 5, Yes. Amendment 6, Yes. Their social opinion spoke volumes for representing decency and all that is good and the integrity of what is exactly needed as a city leader. These candidates undoubtedly reflected where their morals lay by not being deceitful to the people.
