CALIRED NEWS–A March 24 deadline is rapidly approaching for purchasing a $60 NorthState Care Clinic ticket for the 41st Annual Fundraiser with theme: “My Hope Is In The Lamb” to be held April 4 from 6-8 pm at the Redding Christian Fellowship, 2157 Victor Avenue. Gala attendees are invited to wear red, white and blue.

Guest speaker, Sophia Lorey–a podcaster–is the California Family Council Outreach Director and is a regular contributor for the Daily Caller. She makes frequent appearances on Fox & Friends and Newsmax while serving as an ambassador for Alliance Defending Freedom and the pro-life organization, Live Action. Lorey has also been an intern for the Family Research Council and Young Women for America in Washington DC.

Lorey has been at the forefront of defending women’s sports. The former college soccer player at Vanguard University of Southern California and four-year varsity athlete has been vocal about the dangers posed by current California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) regulations that allow students to participate in school programs and activities consistent with the student’s gender identity.

“The CIF’s ‘Gender Diverse Youth Sport Inclusivity Toolkit’’ prioritizes male athletes over the safety, privacy, and opportunities of young women,” said Lorey. “As a former athlete I’ve witnessed first hand the hard work and sacrifice required to excel in sports. It’s deeply unjust to place girls in positions where they’re at a biological disadvantage, and it’s unacceptable to compromise their privacy in locker rooms and showers.”

Lorey has addressed the CIF Governing Board multiple times, urging leaders to reconsider policies she believes jeopardize the future of women’s sports. She is a major organizer of the Save Girls Sports CA Coalition–composed of more than 20 organizations that hosted a press conference in Long Beach prior to the CIF’s Federated Council meeting on Feb. 7.

“I have watched girls dedicate years of training, only to be robbed of opportunities by males who possessed physiological advantages–advantages that no amount of identity politics can erase,” said Lorey.

Standing before CIF leadership, Lorey issued a challenge: “Do what is right and protect female athletes, or be remembered as the board that destroyed girls’ sports in California.” Lorey also warned CIF officials that their refusal to follow federal law would come with consequences–legal, financial and historical.

“For 52 years Title IX has protected female athletes from discrimination. The law was written to ensure equal opportunities for women in sports, but CIF is violating its legal obligations under the California Education Code, which mandates compliance with all federal nondiscrimination laws.

“In direct defiance of the recent Executive Order on ‘Keeping Men Out of Women Sports’ (issued by President Donald J. Trump on Feb. 5), CIF is allowing males to take championship titles, scholarships, and roster spots from young girls. The Department of Justice has made it clear that schools failing to comply, will face federal funding cuts.

“California prides itself on being a leader in equality and justice. But justice is not achieved by erasing girls from their own sports.”
