Thomas Creek Implementation Plan Moving Forward
We are excited to report that the County has closed on two of the four properties that were identified in the Thomas Creek Implementation Plan. The two other remaining properties are slated to be purchased in February or March 2025. This is a crucial step in mitigating and reducing flooding in the future. Additional buyouts will be considered as funding becomes available.

City and County Hold Joint Meeting

On Thursday, February 6, 2025, the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners and the City of Fernandina Beach held a Joint Meeting to discuss items of mutual concern. Topics included: 

– Vision 2050 planning/2050 Comprehensive Plan Update
– Amelia Island Trail project
-County recreation
– Ybor Alvarez expansion
– Tourist Development Taxes
– Beach Harmonization

No action was taken at the meeting however both commissions presented updates on projects that impact City and County residents. The discussions were very informative and showed how both commissions are working together for the betterment of Nassau County residents.

BOCC Newsletter for December

Attached is the December 2024 edition of the Board of County Commissioner’s Newsletter. This monthly publication features a variety of information related to projects and activities for the departments under the Board. It also includes information about road projects, special events, adopted policies and procedures, budget discussions, and more!

Workshop Regarding Timber to Tides Design Overlay

On Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. (immediately following the regular meeting), the Board of County Commissioners will have a Workshop to discuss the proposed Timber to Tides Overlay Design. There will be no action taken at the Workshop. Should the Board determine it would like to move forward and consider adoption of the T2T Design Overlay, a public hearing will be scheduled and advertised for the public. 

Please note that the BOCC Workshop will be live streamed so residents can watch remotely if unable to attend in person. A recording of the meeting will also be available following the conclusion of the meeting at www.nassauclerk/watch-meetings.

Seniors Night Out: Valentine Party

Don’t forget that our next Seniors Night Out is Saturday, February 15 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. This year’s theme is a Valentine Party. Join us for live music, dancing and dinner. There is no cost to attend however the event is limited to Nassau County residents age 55 and up.

February Gardening Checklist

The Nassau County Extension has released the February checklists to help you care for your gardens. The first attachment provides information on winter flowers that love the cold weather. The second attachment explains which vegetables to plant now for a late spring/early summer harvest.

Callahan Library Book Sale


Attention book lovers!
The Friends of the Callahan Library is hosting a Book Sale on Saturday, March 15th from 10am-2pm. Here you will find paperback books for $1 and hardcover books $2. You can also fill a bag for $10. Friends of the Callahan Library can also enjoy early entry into the sale at 9am.

Hands Only CPR Course

Nassau County Emergency Management and the Medical Reserve Corps have partnered to offer a free hands-only CPR Course next Thursday, February 13th at 6pm. The class will take place at the Emergency Operations Center located at 77150 Citizens Circle, Yulee. Pre-registration is not required.
