Nassau Habitat for Humanity
As the Nassau Habitat for Humanity team rings in the New Year, breaking ground on three new homes, they are one step closer to a goal set in a recent visioning session. In that strategic planning session, the board of directors, instead of the usual one or two homes builds annually, set the new goal to complete Six by ‘26. Nassau Habitat is off to a great start with all three houses, slated for 2023 currently under construction. The three new homes are located at Vernon and Elm Street and complete a series of homes in Nassau Habitat’s “Six on Elm” project.
Nassau Habitat has expressed gratitude for a tremendous outpouring of volunteer help, and it looks like this project will be completed in record time. These three homes represent the affiliate’s 49th, 50th and 51st homes on the island.
Expansion of Nassau Habitat’s home building efforts not only requires more dedicated volunteers but also the purchase of more land suitable for building affordable homes. The four homes to be built in 2024, Berkman Place, have lots secured for this initiative. However, Habitat needs additional lots for 2025 and beyond. While they continue to remain dedicated to on-island builds, Nassau Habitat also plans go West and build new homes in the Yulee area and off the HWY 200 corridor. They are now actively searching for discounted or donated buildable land on and off island.
You can help provide affordable homes to deserving families by giving building funds, land, or your volunteer time to the Six by 26 project. For more information about the Six by 26 project and to donate please visit www.nassauhabitatforhumanity.org.
