Public Transit Meetings

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA), in partnership with Nassau County, is conducting a study of public transportation opportunities in the region. This study will update the 2015 Transit Study to reflect demographic, economic, infrastructure and industry growth trends that impact public transportation services and needs. The Transit Study document will include a financial plan identifying existing and projected operating and capital funding sources; a strategic plan for marketing and promoting transit services; and the implementation steps for five-year and ten-year planning periods.
Public participation is an integral part of the study and we want to hear from you! JTA will be hosting two public meetings to share information about the study and to get your feedback. Representatives will give a presentation and exhibits will be available for review. Your input will be used to help identify service improvements for future transit.
The two meeting dates are as follows:
CallahanTuesday, February 13, 2024 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Callahan Multi-Use Facility, 543350 US Highway 1, Callahan, FL 32011
Fernandina BeachThursday, February 15, 2024 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Peck Center Auditorium, 516 S. 10th Street, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034
Thank you in advance for participation and for providing valuable feedback to the County.

Reminder: Nassau Night

Don’t forget that next Saturday, February 17, 2024 has been proclaimed “Nassau Night” for the Nassau Pride’s home game in celebration of Nassau County’s 200th birthday.

Enjoy a game of professional basketball, meet some Elected Officials, and provide input for Nassau Vision 2050 to help us plan for the future of Nassau County!

Bicentennial Event Successful

On Saturday, January 13, 2024, the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners and Amelia Island Convention & Visitors Bureau hosted the Bicentennial Kickoff Event at Wildlight to celebrate Nassau County’s 200th birthday. The event included a chili cookoff, cornhole tournament, vendors, food trucks, games and live music. The event was well attended throughout the day and while we don’t have an exact figure, it is estimated that several thousand came to the event throughout the day.

More than 600 people visited the Visioning Tent to share their thoughts and big ideas on the future of Nassau County. Activities were available for all ages and backgrounds including the postcards to your future self mural, community priority sticker boards, custom coloring sheets created by Arts & Culture Nassau, a shark teeth guessing game thanks to the Nature Center, and more!

We are excited to announce that we will offer a free “Seniors’ Night Out” for people in the community who are 55 and older on Saturday, March 9th from 4-9pm at the Callahan Multi-use Facility and outside courtyard of the Callahan Fairgrounds.

This free event will feature a buffet dinner from Callahan BBQ, dance lessons, live music by “Laid Back” with intermittent dance times with a DJ, door prizes and more. Council on Aging will be offering an ongoing shuttle service from the Fairgrounds parking lot to the main entrance of the event.

We hope that our seniors will take this opportunity for a fun night of dining, dancing, and socializing!

Free Tree for Kids from Neighborhood Forest

The Nassau County Public Library System is pleased to partner with the Neighborhood Forest, a non-profit organization founded in 2010 to help children learn more about the Earth and to help beautiful neighborhoods.

At this time, parents can register for their kid to receive a tree in time for Earth Day (April 22nd). All you need to do is scan the QR Code on the attached flyer or visit their website to sign-up your child/children. During registration, you will be asked which Library branch you would like to pick your tree(s) up from. It is unknown at this time which trees they will give away as they try to allow flexibility based on registration and the number of trees available, however the species information will be released to you prior to delivery day.

The deadline to sign up is March 15, 2024 so don’t delay!

Fabulous Flags of Fernandina in Quilts
