The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) just announced improvements to its Mayport Ferry in anticipation of summer traffic. The ferry connects Mayport to Fort George Island across the St. Johns River and completes the connection between the north and south ends of Florida A1A across the river.
The schedule has changed, with operating hours now starting at 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday on the Mayport Village side, and 6:15 a.m. at Fort George Island. The start times are 7 a.m. and 7:15 a.m. Friday through Sunday.
Additionally, a recent infusion of 7.2 million dollars allowed for upgrades to car queue safety on both sides, as well as a covered pavilion, landscaping and ADA-accessible restrooms on the Mayport Village side.
If you’re in search of something a little different, the Mayport Ferry might be just the outing you’re looking for.
