We have some new research that I think is really important. While the American news media has been working overtime to convince people that violent crime is dramatically falling and castigating Americans for falsely believing that crime is increasing, our new research shows that Americans are right and the media is wrong. Arrest rates have plummeted since COVID, with only 20% of reported violent crimes and 4.5% of reported property crimes in cities with over one million people in 2022 resulting in an arrest. As arrest rates have fallen, people have been less likely to report crimes to police, and criminals have been committing more crime as they have little to worry about, so reported crimes have fallen even as total crimes have risen. To show how law enforcement is collapsing, in these large cities, only 8% of all violent crimes and 1.4% of property crimes result in an arrest. I hope you will look at this, and that it gets a lot of attention, so please share it.

Our other research shows that over 92% of violent crimes over the last eight years have not involved guns. It doesn’t exactly fit the frequent claim that violent crime is a gun problem.

Congressman Thomas Massie and I have an op-ed at The Federalist that takes the Biden administration to task for violating the law and establishing the National Extreme Risk Protection Order Resource Center in the US Department of Justice. We explain the dangers of these laws. I discussed our piece and other gun control issues on Sean Hannity’s national radio show, the most listened-to talk radio show with an audience of about 16 million people. The interview went very well, and I highly recommend it. WMAL’s Vince Coglianese and One America’s News’ Tipping Point also had me on to talk about our piece.

Other interviews with the Bill Martinez ShowThe Statewide Montana Talks Network, and What’s on Your Mind (a radio network covering Minnesota, North and South Dakota, and eastern Montana) discussed my earlier op-ed in The Federalist on Senator John Cornyn’s abysmal record on gun control.

The political bias in entertainment TV continues. NBC’s Law & Order provides another example of a defensive gun use gone wrong and CBS’s new show Tracker takes the gun control mantra that Stand Your Ground laws let you fatally shoot people even when they aren’t threatening anyone.

Another post shows how relatively few Democrats, liberals, and high-income are very concerned about violent crime, while blacks, women, and conservatives are most concerned. That poll fits in with our new research showing how total crime is dramatically increasing. Two other posts discuss how the criminal justice system failed in both the murder of NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller and the SUV mass murderer in Waukesha, Wisconsin a couple of Christmases ago.

This past week, I also gave a talk at the Florida State University Law School on how gun control discriminates against the poor and minorities. I hope to have a video of that talk in my next email to you.

The CPRC has a new executive director, Laura Liberty.

We have also continued collecting cases where people legally carrying guns in public have stopped crimes. Here are the cases that we collected for December
