Congress released a bill package Sunday to increase the nation’s debt limit in exchange for a number of Republicans’ desired spending cuts and other concessions.
House lawmakers will have three days to review the 99-page bill, called the Fiscal Responsibility Act, before they are set to vote for it as soon as Wednesday. The still unnumbered bill can be viewed here: https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/3746/text ….. Ed. note: It passed the House on Wednesday and moves now to the Senate. 6-1: looks like Senate just passed it, too, so on to Biden’s desk.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) accused “fake conservatives” of agreeing to “fake spending cuts.”….
Biden said, “If you want to try to make it look like I made some compromise of the debt ceiling, I didn’t. I made a compromise on the budget.”
The House today overwhelmingly passed the debt ceiling bill 314-117. 71 Republicans voted against the measure. Democrats voted for it heavily, with only 46 against it.
