You can get the word out on NAMI by Handing Out Information at a local Food Drive at Journey Church.
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Nassau County FL is partnering with Authentic Impact of Journey Church to promote NAMI’s free mental health support groups and resources. Volunteers talk briefly with and hand out materials to people waiting in a Food Drive car line.
Here’s what some of our current volunteers have to say about this opportunity:
“I enjoyed meeting many diverse people. Only a handful knew about NAMI. One lady actually had to wipe her tears letting me about her anxieties for her grandchildren. The majority of persons thanked me for being there. A few even said they loved me!” – Annie
“The Journey Church Food Distribution event was one of the most meaningful outreach experiences I ever had. Between [four volunteers], we probably spoke to several hundred families. We divided up cars in line such that nearly everyone received a one-to-one conversation that seemed almost intimate. Many shared some personal interest or knew of a neighbor they planned to offer info to. I was most struck by the massive poverty that seemed to be represented. Most admitted their families have endured more stress since Covid.” – Cathy
