Nassau County School Board Candidate Forum

    About Ashley Benoit – Candidate for District 5– Ashley Benoit is an educator, business owner and parent. Ashley has spent more than 14 years in education as a teacher, reading coach and curriculum coordinator. As a business owner, Ashley has learned how to start and grow a business from the ground up. She understands how fiscal decisions impact the day-to-day operations.  Ashley is passionate about education and serving the students of Nassau County.  She believes in authentic instruction, increasing our teacher retention and performing due diligence prior to voting on mandates and purchases.

About Jamie Deonas – Candidate for District 1                                                     (currently represents District 3) Jamie Deonas was born and raised in Nassau County, FL, and is a graduate of the Nassau County public school system class of 1989.  Jamie is happily married to Janet Deonas and they have two adult children who both graduated from the Nassau County public school system, and a grandson who currently attends Fernandina Beach Middle School.  Jamie is a 27 year veteran with the Nassau County Fire/ Rescue Department where he serves as a Paramedic and Engineer.  Jamie is also a small business owner.  He has started, owned and operated several small businesses all located in Nassau County.  Jamie is deeply invested in his community and very active in many areas throughout the county.  Jamie is proud to be a 5th generation Nassau County resident.       

About David Dew – Candidate for District 3 David T. Dew is one of the current candidates for the seat of Nassau County School Board, District 3. A 4th generation Yulee native. He started kindergarten at Yulee Primary School and graduated from Fernandina Beach High School in 2004. He’s  an active volunteer in the community with several local nonprofits. A father of a 10 year who attends Yulee Elementary School. David works as a Civil Service Employee for the Department of Defense -FRCSE- at NASJAX, NS Mayport and Cecil Field. He started his career in industrial construction as a tradesman then on to Supervisor, Planning, Estimating, Scheduling and Project Management for Power Plants and Oil Refineries. He’s an advocate for the special needs community and the director for the Yulee Holiday Parade and Festival. Most of his free time is dedicated to volunteering in our community or planning fundraising events. He’s a supporter of transparency in decision making, parental rights to decide educational guidance of their children, pay increases for educators (especially experienced and veteran teachers), and for the elected officials to do their research and listen to the people they represent before making decisions that will impact our district.

About Shannon Hogue – Candidate for District 1 Shannon Hogue is running for the District 1 Nassau County School Board seat.  She is married to Brent Hogue and they have three daughters.  Her entire career has been centered around training and developing highly effective teachers and creating a culture of lifelong learning within students.  She has been in education for the last 23 years and have served and advocated for the educational needs of our community’s children, 7 years as a Curriculum Director of a local private school and most recently, as the Reading Coach at Emma Love Hardee Elementary.  She owns Ms. Shannon’s Summer Camps, a local summer camp business.  During Covid, she began a ministry, Sunshine Saturday Ministries, that delivers flowers to Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia citizens who need a smile.  Last year, she was named Emma Love Hardee’s Teacher of the Year and this year she was named the Veteran of Foreign Affairs’ Elementary Teacher of the Year for District 6.

About Albert Wagner – Candidate for District 3 Albert Wagner is a public servant who has served communities in public education for over 17 years. During his career, Albert has worked in the capacity of Elementary Principal, Assistant Principal, Instructional Coach, and Teacher. Albert graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor’s Degree in December 1999 in Elementary Education. In December 2004, Albert attained his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from St. Joseph’s University. Albert has certifications as a K-6 Elementary Teacher, ESE teacher, School Principal, Supervisor, and District Administrator. Albert has worked as a teacher at Yulee Elementary School prior to his current role as Assistant Principal. During his time at Yulee Elementary, Albert gained a positive reputation in the community of facilitating hands-on lessons for his students, going above and beyond for his school, and developing professional and respectful relationships with stakeholders. Albert is currently a candidate for District 3 School Board for Nassau County. He is hoping to bring his wealth of experience and expertise to Nassau School Board and empower the Board to be more transparent and accountable to district employees and the residents/businesses in Nassau County. Albert resides in Yulee Township with his wife of 16 years Kendra. Together they have two beautiful daughters Rylee, age 13, who will be entering 8th grade at Yulee Middle School, and Addisyn, age 10, who will be completing her last year at Yulee Elementary. Albert and his wife Kendra are proud to be raising their children in Nassau County. Whether you live on the island or in Hilliard or anywhere in between, Albert will always be available to discuss your concerns regarding our school district. He will listen, gain an understanding, and follow through to assist you in any capacity that he can. Albert will always serve through respectful collaboration, fiscal, staff, and policy transparency, and accountability to all stakeholders in Nassau County.
