Amelia Island Museum of History Presents Our 3rd on 3rd Program This Friday!

April 18 | 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Meet Our Interviewees

David Roeser

Originally from Canton, Ohio, David served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Coast Guard between 1967 and 1977. He spent over two years in Vietnam, serving in four different campaigns (Cam Ranh Bay, Chu Lai, Da Nang, and Sau Valley). He voluntarily extended for six months there to support his fellow soldiers. David quickly rose to the rank of sergeant with the 101st Airborne Division and the 159th Assault Support Helicopter Battalion, earning a Bronze Star during his first six months. After leaving the Army, he joined the Coast Guard for a year before moving on to a 25-year career as a claims investigator in the insurance industry. David eventually retired to Fernandina Beach, Florida, where he now calls home.

Jim Duda

Jim is originally from Fulton, New York, and served as a U.S. Marine Corps officer from 1968 to 1971. In Vietnam, he led infantry and reconnaissance platoons with the 1st Recon Battalion and 3rd Battalion, 26th Marine Division. He saw near-daily combat during his 13-month tour and earned several unit commendations, along with a Bronze Star with Valor. After his service, Jim worked in telecommunications and marketing in Dallas for 20 years before retiring to Fernandina Beach.

Jeff McDowell

Born in Missouri but raised in south Florida, Jeff McDowell served in the U.S. Navy from 1991 to 2011 as a broadcaster, following a military family legacy. His career took him around the world—from the Persian Gulf to Tokyo, Hawaii, and the Middle East. He led media operations aboard the USS John F. Kennedy and USS Eisenhower and even worked alongside President Clinton as a White House photographer on a mission to recover missing U.S. soldiers in Southeast Asia. Jeff ended his military career after 20 years of service and later returned to Florida, where he is now retired in Fernandina Beach.
