Britain’s Loyal Colonies Lost: The American Revolution in Florida

with David Head

As 13 of Britain’s colonies declared independence in 1776, the empire’s Florida colonies, East Florida and West Florida, remained loyal to King George. Eyed by American and Spanish forces alike, the Floridas were soon engulfed in war. This captivating lecture tells the often-overlooked story of Florida in the War of Independence.

Meet Our Speaker

David Head

David Head teaches history at the University of Central Florida. An expert on pirates and privateers as well as the American Revolution, he has published five books. Dr. Head’s most recent books include, A Crisis of Peace: George Washington, the Newburgh Conspiracy, and the Fate of the American Revolution, which was a finalist for the 2020 George Washington Book Prize. A Western New York native, Dr. Head received his BA in history from Niagara University and his Ph.D. in history from the University at Buffalo.
