Maybe we should say election fever. Elections seem more superheated than they were before. Widening political differences and serious issues have made it that way. Local, state and national elections have become much more hotly contested.

Locally, this has mainly played out in fairly tame things like candidate forums and rallies. Local columnists in most local news/commentary publications, including this one, were not so tame. Nationally, it’s a different story. Candidate rallies and televised events are more confrontational. Well, the stakes are high. There is also much fighting over election laws, as both sides attempt to bend them to their advantage. We’d settle for a fair election. It had better be or there might be real trouble. Not only does it need to be fair, but it needs to be transparent and seen by the public as fair.

9-3-24 On Labor Day, supporters launched a Trump boat parade running down the Intracoastal:

Fernandina Trump Boat Parade

On Labor Day, a Trump boat parade took place on the Intracoastal waterway. Far larger ones occurred down south-one had literally thousands of boats inn the state with the highest number of boat registrations. A literally “false flagged” craft, with swastikas displayed showed up at another recent one. Other participants got them out fast.

On Saturday, competing Trump and Harris-supporting groups displayed campaign signs on opposite sides of Sadler Road, between St Rd 200 and 14th St.

A Trump car rally went through downtown Fernandina Beach and other points.

Highway and house signs are popping up all over. In some cases, homeowners forbid them, in an attempt to keep peace in the neighborhoods.

All this is to draw attention to voting starting next week. Mail-in ballots are also out. Check out our elections section which is admittedly biased somewhat Conservative. You can get the other side from the local leftist press, who won’t admit to bias.

Although pundits have said that “All Politics are Local,” it appears that the most important elections are for control of the White House, U.S. Senate and House. The enormous money and power which have accrued there (constitutionally or not) and widely differing candidate views on issues, demand your attention and action this year.
