Press Release

By Congressman Aaron Bean

04-13-24

This week, the House considered legislation to reauthorize Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which the Intelligence Community uses to surveil foreigners without a warrant. But that’s not always the case.

In 2021, we learned the FBI abused FISA to conduct warrantless searches of 3.4 million Americans’ private communications including emails and text messages. If the government is going to spy on Americans, a warrant should be required. It should be simple, but this is Crazy Town.

Today, I voted against FISA because it fails to include a warrant requirement for U.S. citizens. As your voice in our nation’s capital, I will always stand with the Constitution, the American people, and you.

PASSED: BILL TO SUPPORT MISSING AND EXPLOITED CHILDREN

On Tuesday, the House Passed S. 2051, the Missing Children’s Assistance Reauthorization Act of 2023, which makes critical updates to help the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) better support youth who are missing, reduce child sexual exploitation, and prevent child victimizations. I was proud to introduce this bill in the House back in April.

Bottom line: our children deserve to grow up in a safe environment. This vote is an important step in the fight to shield children from exploitation and danger, and I look forward to seeing this bill signed into law. Learn more HERE .

DEFENDING OUR COMMUNITIES FROM ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT SEXUAL PREDATORS

President Biden’s open border policies are attracting sexual predators to the United States. Since October 1, 2024, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol have arrested 54 convicted sexual predators including multiple child rapists attempting to illegally enter our country. Shame on the Biden administration.

This week, I cosponsored Representative Vern Buchanan’s Protecting Our Communities from Sexual Predators Act to ensure illegal immigrants convicted of sexual assault are deported and permanently barred from reentering the United States. Learn more HERE .

HURTING NOT HELPING: BIDENOMICS

Biden’s economic plan is imperiling countless Americans. From inflation to business closures to jobs shipped overseas, we are in desperate need of tax relief. On Thursday, I raised concerns in the Small Business Committee about the future of Main Street under Bidenomics.

One thing is for certain—the Senate must take up and pass House Republicans Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act, which will strengthen the middle class, grow the economy, and unleash America’s economic comeback.

PASSED: LANDMARK BILL TO UPDATE FEDERAL WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

America’s economy is resilient, but the skills gap is prohibiting growth. On Tuesday, House Republicans took necessary action and passed H.R. 6655, A Stronger Workforce for America Act — legislation that makes critical improvements to the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), which hasn’t been updated in nearly 10 years.

H.R. 6655 includes key reforms for WIOA to ensure job seekers find high-quality careers and to help job creators hire workers with the skills to succeed in a 21st century workforce. Learn more HERE .

BRING THEM HOME NOW

It’s been six months since the deadly October 7th attacks and Hamas continues to hold innocent civilians, including five Americans in cruel captivity. To bring home the hostages, Biden should be supporting Israel and putting pressure on Hamas—not the other way around.

I joined Representative Russell Fry in sending a letter to President Biden calling for his unilateral support of Israel and to ensure the release of the hostages being held in Gaza. Read more HERE .
