Work is an honorable enterprise, promoting a dignified pathway out of poverty. Yet today, there are more than 1.5 million able-bodied adults on Medicaid who are not working. We can’t keep asking hardworking Americans to pay for services for their neighbors who refuse to work.
Earlier this week, I reintroduced a bill to reform work requirements for able-bodied adults receiving Medicaid benefits. The requirements apply to able-bodied adults without dependents who receive Medicaid benefits to work or volunteer at least 80 hours a month. This change would help lift millions off government dependence, save taxpayers more than $100 billion over 10 years, and put America on the path of fiscal responsibility.
STRATEGY TO HELP ICE AMID TRUMP DEPORTATION BLITZ
The southern border is no longer a Texas problem—it’s a problem facing all of America. This week, I joined Congressman Michael Cloud in introducing the 287 (g) Program Protection Act to strengthen border security by empowering ICE officials with reinforcements from state and local law enforcement.
We will no longer surrender our border to an invasion. We are reclaiming our country.
PROTECTING RED SNAPPER SEASON FROM UNNECESSARY GOVERNMENT REGULATION
We’ve made great strides in the Sunshine State to ensure our natural resources, including the Red Snapper, are preserved and protected for future generations.
I joined Senator Rick Scott and Congressman John Rutherford in introducing the Red Snapper Act to encourage better data to evaluate the actual red snapper population in the South Atlantic. Together, we are working to stop NOAA’s unnecessary regulatory intervention that is threatening the livelihoods of local businesses and the broader tourism industry.
SUPPORTING PRO-GROWTH TAX POLICY FOR MAIN STREET
Our economy is dependent upon small businesses, and it’s my job to ensure they have a fighting chance.
I joined my Ways and Means colleague Congressman Lloyd Smucker in introducing the Main Street Tax Certainty Act to permanently extend Section 199A of the Internal Revenue Code, which is slated to expire at the end of this year.
