Americans are tired of the federal government using their paychecks as an ATM. Families across the nation pay their debts and live within their means, and the federal government should do the same.

This week, House Republicans took action to end the era of reckless Washington spending. The Limit, Save, Grow Act of 2023, is a transformational bill to limit federal spending, claw back $60 billion in unspent COVID funds, and grow the economy by strengthening America’s workforce.

It’s a responsible plan to save hardworking taxpayers $4.8 trillion, lower costs, and make us less dependent on China all without cutting Defense or VA benefits, cutting Medicaid or Social Security or defaulting on our debt.

We can meet our nation’s funding needs without jeopardizing our economy and saddling future generations with more debt. SUPPORTING THE COAST GUARD’S ROLE IN AMERICAN NATIONAL SECURITY
Jacksonville is a maritime town and a strategic partner in our national defense. In an era of new dynamic threats, we need to ensure the brave men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville and across the nation have the proper resources and technology to uphold maritime law and order.

This week in Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I was proud to approve H.R 2741 “Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2023,” to strengthen, support, and authorize funding for the United States Coast Guard for its critical missions to safeguard our nation’s borders, facilitate maritime commerce, and ensure maritime safety. Learn more HERE.
STANDING UP FOR FLORIDA WORKERS AND CONSUMERS AGAINST CHINA
America’s workers and consumers lose when the United States allows Communist China to avoid U.S. tariffs. This is anti-American business.

That’s why House Republicans passed H.J. Res. 39 to prevent China from circumventing our tariffs. This resolution ensures the United States maintains crucial protections for American workers and our economy. Read more about it HERE.
TAKING STEPS TO DEFEND FREE SPEECH ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES
Conservative students have a right to express their views without being attacked on campus. This week, I joined my Education and Workforce Committee colleagues in sending a letter to the Department of Education to ensure students will not be silenced and their First Amendment rights are protected.

MEETING WITH FLORIDA FARM BUREAU
Agriculture is more than a big deal in Florida—it’s one of our top industries. Recently, I had the opportunity to catch up with members of the Florida Farm Bureau Federation in our nation’s capital.

We discussed Biden’s veto of House Republicans’ resolution to repeal the burdensome Waters of the United States Act (WOTUS). With high inflation, we should be providing relief to local communities, not increasing regulatory restrictions.
PROTECTING RESPONSIBLE HOMEOWNERS FROM INCREASED FEES
On May 1st, the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA)’s Loan-Level Price Adjustments will impose new fees on mortgage borrowers with high credit scores to subsidize higher-risk borrowers with lower credit scores. This is the latest effort by the far left to enforce equity in the housing market by punishing financially responsible Americans.

To tackle this misguided effort, I joined my colleagues in introducing the “Responsible Borrower Protection Act,” which would prohibit these new fees from going into effect and protect hardworking American families from this gross government overreach.
UPCOMING ACADEMY NOMINATIONS
One of the most rewarding aspects of serving in Congress is nominating high achieving, patriotic students from across Florida’s 4th district to attend a U.S. Military Service Academy.   My office can nominate up to ten individuals for appointments to four of the five U.S. Service Academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY. The fifth Military Service Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), New London, CT, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.
To access the Military Academy Nomination application, please visit  https://bean.house.gov/services/military-academy-nominations.  Deadline to submit a completed packet is September 15, 2023. Application packets can be dropped off in person, emailed to my Military Academy Coordinator, or mailed to the following address: 501 Centre Street, Suite 107, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034.
