… as of 9:30 PM EST Tuesday……. Donald Trump- 55% to Nimrata Haley’s 45.5% (9:54 PM WTOP count), the latter fortified with quite a few Democrat votes, in an unsuccessful attempt to neutralize Trump. Other candidates only gleaned fractional percentages. A big question is: how many of the non-Trump voting Republicans will support him in the general election and how many might abandon a foundering Biden? Trump is only slightly ahead of Biden in national polls, but is doing well in the swing states.

On the Democrat side, so far Dean Phillips is ahead with 21%, to 23% for Biden, 5.3% for Williamson, 45.5% (unprocessed write-in votes) and only fractional percentages for others, with many write-in votes (as of 10:54 pm EST)still uncounted. Many of those will likely go to Biden. You see, he’s not even on the ballot, so supporters have been pushing real hard for a write-in campaign.

From WTOP:

Joe Biden write-in

DEM54,570 51.5%

Dean Phillips DEM 20,976 19.8%

Unprocessed write-in DEM 14,967 14.1%

Other write-in DEM 6,5836 .2%

Marianne Williamson DEM 5,016 4.7%

CNN numbers look radically different

Marianne WilliamsonDemocratic3.7%1,454

You would never know that there are 45 candidates in the 2024 NH Primary (a few have dropped out) by watching/reading most media. Lesser known candidates are usually completely ignored, which makes it far less likely that their ideas and qualifications will ever be known, making the results somewhat self-fulfilling.

Trump is only gaining momentum as the public becomes more aware of his platform, all major rivals but one drop out, and his likely election opponent, Joe Biden continues actions and behavior objectionable to more and more voters. Every time Trump is indicted in the game of weaponization of the justice system, his polling numbers have risen, indicating that the public disagrees with these actions. Haley has become the Never-Trumper Republican candidate of choice.

Trump is expected to win the Republican vote and Biden the Democrat vote. If Republican candidate Nimrata Haley exceeds her low expectations, it will be regarded as a win in some quarters, but SC is a much more important vote. Trump is expected to win both, which would pretty much mean he would dominate almost all of the primaries and go on to be the nominee, barring even worse news about all the indictments against him.

Due to Biden’s difficulty in performing his job, the Democrats may try to engineer a later stage replacement for him and bypass the primaries to select that person. There is much speculation about who, but that is not the focus of this article. His nominal opponents in the NH Primary are Dean Phillips and Marianne Williams, who are not expected to do well. How could they when hardly anyone knows anything about them, because media ignore them and they lack funds for high profile campaigns?
